Dietary Restriction

Gluten Free - Gluten is the stuff in wheat and grain that gives breads structure and shape. Some people who have a stomach disorder called Celiac disease cannot eat products with gluten. If they do, there will have a heavy duty stomach ache.

Lactose Intolerance - The inability to properly digest milk or milk products. If consumed, milk will cause the person to have a wicked gas and stomach pain. Not Cool!

Kosher - The food processing has to meet Jewish religious standards. A rabbi has to bless preparation areas. The meat has to be blessed and slaughtered in a quick and humane way. You cannot mix milk and meat together. Kosher products will be marked using P, U or K symbols on the packaging.

Hallal - This is food and processing methods that are permissible by Islamic Laws. Hallal meats are often available at Hallal and Arabic markets.

Vegetarian - A diet that does not include any meat. There are many different styles of vegetarian, but this is the basic thought.

People will incorporate vegetarianism into their lifestyle for many reasons, such as moral and religious beliefs, as well as for health benefits.

It is important to make sure you are eating the right amount of protein, and keeping up with your vitamins and minerals. Some meat substitutes include: soy based foods like tofu, and textured soy protein. Tempeh is made from a mixture of soy beans and whole grains, and Seitan is made from wheat gluten. These can be seasoned and marinated to increase flavor. Beans and whole grains add a great hearty, filling quality to your vegetarian meal

Vegan - A diet where you don’t eat or use any meat or animal byproducts like leather, jello, honey, cheese, or eggs.

In most recipes Eggs can be replaced. Eggs are used in certain recipes to bind food together, such as a meatloaf. Eggs also increase moisture and air in baked goods. Natural egg replacement liquids and powders, flax seed meal, soda, apple sauce, and vegetable oil can all be used instead of eggs

Milk can be replaced with several good options like soy milk, rice milk, hemp seed milk, and almond milk. These other options are lighter in taste and texture but are still good replacements for the real thing

Honey is produced by bees and can be replaced by agave nectar and barley malt syrup.
